Night Owls FAQs

Want some further details about our Night Owls? Check out the answers to our frequently asked questions below.

How long is a season?

We run two 10 week seasons on a Tuesday or a Thursday night. Season 1 starts in October, Season 2 starts in January.

The season has already started, can I still join?

Absolutely, you are welcome to join any time. We just need to know when you are coming so we can plan the competition. Just give our Night Owls Coordinators a call.

How many players do I need to play?

A team is 4 players, but if you don’t have that many or just want to come on your own, let us know and we will find some way of involving you in a game.

How long is a game?

Each game consists of 15 ends with a new opponent every week.

What time does it start and finish?

Get here by 6:30pm for a 7pm start and your game will finish no later than 9:15pm, so you can still get up for work the next day. Stay after the game to join in our raffle and lucky jackpot!

How much does it cost?

At $7 per player, and no registration fees required, our Night Owls are easy to just turn up to and have a go.

What equipment or gear to I need?

You can borrow some bowls from us, so all you need to is make sure you are wearing flat shoes or are prepared to go barefoot on our greens.

What can I expect after the game?

Everyone comes in for a drink, while we share some highlights for the night. We have a raffle including two meat trays, a voucher from our sponsors, Tony and Marks, various dinner vouchers from our sponsors including Payneham Tavern, De Corso’s and the Windsor Hotel, as well as some bottles of Amadio Wines. Don’t run away too soon and you might even win our lucky player draw!

I have some children who are interested in playing, can they come too?

Yes! Children are welcome and can play the game too. Some champion bowlers are as young as seven! We have some lightweight bowls if required for the littler children.

Can I still play if I have some disabilities?

Yes you can still play if you have disabilities. We have people who use wheelchairs, walking frames or sticks play the game. There is a disability accessible toilet available too.

Is there a hot weather policy?

Yes. If the temperature is 38°C or higher when we are due to start, we will wait for 30 mins and check the temperature again. We won’t begin playing until the temperature has dropped below 38°C.

Tuesday Night Owls 7th March 2023

Another cold night…whatever happened to those wonderful warm balmy summer evenings?? Didn’t keep our bowlers away though with 24 teams out on our beautiful Payneham greens. Some really interesting results with the usual upsets, close results and some very big scores. More upsets at the top of the table has resulted in The Falcons, The 4 Amigos and Lupi all in with a chance at the big prize. This will come right down to the wire and so…stay tuned. Only 1 point separated the River Rats from the...

Thursday Night Owls 2nd March 2023

What a night…full of surprises with the top 3 teams all being beaten.  Needless to say the premiership table has been thrown into disarray with only half a game separating the top 9 sides. Looks like it might be the year of the upset and with only 2 rounds to go anything could and will happen. Stay tuned. Some close results with The Gully Gallopers and The Couldabeens both just scraping home by a solitary point against the unlucky Optimists and Bahamas who won most of the ends but not the...
